Med-ic(R) Smart Blister Packaging Technology Standard
Now Available in Europe
IMC and ABR Agreement Promotes Med-ic Technology as Global Electronic
Adherence Measurement Standard
PARIS, May 31 /PRNewswire/ - ABR Pharma of Paris, France and Information
Mediary Corporation (IMC) of Ottawa, Canada are pleased to announce the
availability of Med-ic ECM (Electronic Compliance Monitoring) Packaging in
Europe. ABR Pharma is France's leading Contract Research Organization (CRO)
specializing in post-marketing studies performed on behalf of pharmaceutical
companies. Med-ic ( http://www.med-ic.com/ ) is the world's leading "smart blister", a
disposable low-cost intelligent pharmaceutical packaging (IPP) monitor for
blister packaged medication, aiding in patient adherence assessment, promoting
persistence and reducing clinical study size.
"ABR Pharma's vision is to improve medical practice in France and
beyond", says Dr. Eric Leutenegger, Medical Director of ABR Pharma of Paris,
France, and adds "Med-ic compliance packaging technology allows physicians and
patients to better interact and to improve management of chronic therapy. ABR
can now offer a unique way to have insight into patient adherence, both during
drug development in clinical trials and in real life therapy." ABR's core
expertise is in the areas of regulatory affairs, study design and management,
medical writing, and statistical evaluation of clinical studies.
Under the agreement signed in Paris this month, ABR Pharma acquired the
exclusive rights to market and integrate Med-ic for use in pharmaco-
epidemiological and clinical research studies in France. It will also make
available the technology for use in other European countries. "IMC is proud to
enter into this important partnership with a world-class organization ABR
represents, to promote the use of Med-ic technology as a global standard in
patient adherence monitoring", states Michael Petersen, Chief Operating
Officer of Information Mediary Corporation, and "the Med-ic ECM technology has
been available in the USA and Canada since 2003 and is now the global standard
smart blister technology."
The Med-ic ECM technology was developed to address the multi-billion
dollar healthcare problem of patient noncompliance with prescribed medication.
"Med-ic sets the global standard in electronic compliance monitoring. Until
recently, little could be done to assess the degree to which side effects or
poor clinical response are due to poor compliance, other than asking the
patient if he or she was taking their medication as directed - with
notoriously unreliable responses" explains Dr. Allan Wilson, President of IMC,
and further states that "through careful use of the Med-ic technology
standard, it is possible to de-link side effects and non-response from poor
compliance during therapy, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of compounds
during clinical research, and to promote the non problematic use of opiate
analgesics."
